October, 2013 Down Syndrome Awareness... Day 6

Simple faith…

Josh loves church. He loves everything about church. Sundays are his very favorite day and he is terribly unhappy if he does not go to church. Even with high fevers, he wants to be there.

Every Sunday, without fail, he calls out a song during the song service. And every Sunday, without fail, he stands up in front of everyone and gives a testimony about God’s goodness in his life.

Sometimes we can’t understand him and Abby has to interpret. Sometimes even Abby doesn’t understand him. Sometimes he talks for a very long time. Sometimes he reads from his Bible. Sometimes he goes up front and sings a song. Sometimes I have to fight the urge to stop him because I know that he’s taking a long time and nobody understands him… but I don’t, because I know God understands him and I know God loves his heart.

This morning's testimony was giving thanks for Aggie and Annie (our new kittens). He told a story about them and thanked God for them.

And tonight he brought his drum.

I probably don’t need to say more considering most of you realize he’s never had any formal training on the drums.

But we were blessed.

He put that drum around his neck, marched up front and sang Jesus Loves Me while banging on that plastic toy. You would have thought he was singing for Jesus Himself (well, he was). He stood high and proud and sang right out.

And we were blessed.

At the end of the service, he called out “Are You Washed In the Blood”… a favorite fast one of his. He played his drum as we sang.

And we were blessed again.

I love his simple faith. I love how much he loves the Lord and wants to please Him and give Him thanks. I love that we attend a church that appreciates the blessing in all of that.

Psalm 95:1
O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Photo doesn't match today's story but it's surely another of his favorite things... attending Caleb's football games.
